The 2021 High Level
Political Forum will have the theme ‘Sustainable and resilient recovery
from the COVID-19: building an inclusive and effective path for the
achievement of the 2030 Agenda’. This seems especially fitting for the
Asia-Pacific region where the COVID-pandemic has had a major impact in
the region potentially derailing progress on the #SDGs2030.
Crucial in turning this around will be to elevate the role of private sector, by adopting the SDGs in their #sustainability practices and core business.
Yet, as I did a quick review of the main messages [https://lnkd.in/dtA73rz]
of the Asian country VNRs that were recently released, most countries
do not mention the role of the private sector despite a growing focus on
sustainable consumption and production.
Asian progress on the
SDGs cannot come on track without active role of private sector.
Governments must recognise this if we are to remain hopeful of building a
#sustainable future together. A better integration of the private sector into the country VNR’s can support this.
